Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge Water Quality Internship Available

(accepting applications thru March 15)

 

Are you interested in a career in the protection of water quality and aquatic habitat? Are you interested in gaining experience in working with wildlife?  If so, this may be the summer job for you. The Northwest Regional Partnership, University of Minnesota, the Red Lake Watershed District and Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge are working together to provide a student intern with the opportunity to conduct water monitoring  in and around Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge for the summer of 2008.

 

You will be collecting water quality data, learning how to use and maintain water quality monitoring equipment (including continuous monitoring equipment), assisting with flow measurements, and learning about refuge operations. The water quality monitoring was initiated by the Thief River Watershed Sediment Investigation Clean Water Partnership project and will be expanded by two new projects that are looking more specifically at the water quality upstream, downstream, and within the Agassiz NWR.

 

When: May through August

Salary:  $10/hour

Part time:  24 hours/week

Volunteer: 16 hours/week in and around the Refuge (flexible).

CLOSING DATE:  March 15 (must be post marked or emailed by)

 

Requirements:           

*     Enrolled in post high school/college level classes (biology, natural resources majors preferred)

*     Valid Drivers License

*     18 years of age

Capture and banding of Franklin ’s gulls

Radio telemetry tracking bears and gulls.

Capturing butterflies and moths of the bog

Breeding Bird surveys

Post prescribed burn monitoring of fire-cattail relationship study
